How many tables do you need for 100 wedding guests?
For 100 people in total, including the two of you, a two-person sweetheart table leaves 98 people at guest tables. That is 13 guest tables seating up to eight each, plus the sweetheart table: 14 physical tables. Those are chair-count minimums, not a guarantee that every family fits together.

How the count is rounded
Guest tables = round up ((total people − people at the sweetheart or head table) ÷ seats per guest table).

This count has no room measurements, table footprints, or aisle layout. It cannot tell you if the tables fit the room. Confirm the arrangement with the venue before treating it as a room plan.
An even headcount can still split a party
One even distribution of the 98 guest-table people is 7 tables of 8 and 6 tables of 7. That is only a headcount pattern.
If every pair must stay together, a short table can force a split. Check the parties before you print. The spare-chair count cannot choose for you; a family bigger than a table is the case that breaks the arithmetic.
Three intact families of five cannot fit at two eight-seat tables. Sixteen chairs are not enough once two families would have to share one table.
